SACAB – SA

South African Higher Education Computing Accreditation Board

The SACAB is an IT industry independent body, linked to the Seoul Accord.

The SACAB is made up of a combination of senior academic and industry representatives in S.A. The SACAB evaluates and endorses degree programmes at HEIs in S.A. that comply with international standards, supporting international portability of degree programmes and provides graduates with career paths and skills required by the IT industry.

SACAB Structure

The stakeholders are three members from the IITPSA, two members from SAICSIT, two members from SACLA and two members from the S.A. SACLA HOD’s forum. Two additional members have further been co-opted from Comprehensive universities.

Seoul Accord

The Seoul Accord is an international accreditation agreement for professional computing and information technology academic degree programmes, between the bodies responsible for accreditation and recognition of tertiary-level computing and IT-related HEI qualifications in its signature countries.

Purpose of the SACAB

The documentation serves as a guide for South African Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) programme reviews and it provides information for institutions and reviewers regarding their roles, responsibilities, processes and documentation as they carry out reviews

Programme Reviews

The SACAB Degree and Diploma Accreditation Document Set consists of six documents. Read more about the process, reviews and outcomes. The vision of the SACAB is that the South African Higher Education Institution computing programmes be accepted, recognised and accredited internationally.

The SACAB website provides a platform for HEIs to become familiar with the SACAB accreditation requirements and documentation. The SACAB documentation, forms (including the self-evaluation report), Review board members and list of accredited programmes in S.A. is accessible on this site.
